Berry Crumble Pots for Two

I am a sucker for a cute name and when I came across a dessert by Jane at Hedgecomber called crumble pots last winter, I knew that I had to bookmark it for when our berry season arrived.  I have made this a dessert for two, so multiply accordingly for your crowd.  This felt like a fun date night dessert and it is one of those treats that doesn't take long to make but tastes like you made an effort for the one you love.  Enjoy with any seasonal berry!

  • 3/4 c sliced berries - see note below
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 T flour
  • 2 T rolled oats
  • 3 T brown sugar
  • 1 T plus 1 tsp salted butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the insides of two 4 oz jelly jars.

In a small bowl, stir together strawberries and sugar.  Set aside.

In another small bowl (because this recipe is all about small) stir together, oats, flour, and sugar, then add melted butter and combine until becomes a crumbly mixture.

Evenly distribute the berries between each jar.  They should fill all but the top 1/2" of the container.  Add topping and gently press down, this is going to be pretty full, keep in mind that the berries will cook down a bit.  Place on a rimmed cookie sheet and bake in oven for 18-20 minutes until filling is bubbling and top is browned.

* Slicing or chopping depends on what kind of fruit or berry you are using.  I used local, smaller strawberries for this one, so slicing was the best way to fit a lot of fruit into the jelly container.
